Old and new stations
There are old and new stations, underground and accordingly upper stations. But the older stations are mainly areal stations.
The architectue of the older ones remains of a sort of mansion,
unlike to the newer stations which bring out futuristic forms.
Old: The predominantly used materials are stone and iron, the commanding color is green. The stations which are designed by Otto Wagner are built in Art Nouveau. By the iterant colours and shapes you can easily identify where the city railway is running. Karlsplatz and Hütteldorf rank among the most beautiful stations.
New: The used materials are steal, glas and ferroconcrete. The colores depend on the colors of the various metros. The favoured form is like a mushroom with a cupola shaped roof. But not all correspond to that. There are exceptions for example Siebenhirten and Erlaaer Straße or Tscherttegasse.
